WHO WE ARE AND WHOM WE SERVE

The Society of Polish Urban Planners advocates for the public interest in the development and use of Polish space. It is a social and civic organization, open to all who, through their economic and political activities, knowledge, and skills, improve the quality of Polish space and strive to make it increasingly attractive and competitive in the modern world.

The Society of Polish Urban Planners was founded in 1923 by a group of outstanding artists, academics, and community activists gathered around the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology. Today, the Society has approximately 1,000 members in over a dozen regional branches and specialty sections. It is a member of the International Association of Urban Planners and Regional Planners, which brings together individuals and similar organizations from around the world. It also publishes the journal “Przegląd Urbanistyczny,” continuing the traditions of the monthly “Urbanista” and the monthly “Miasto,” which was also published by the Society for many years.

Since the protection and regulation of professional urban planners’ activities was entrusted to the professional self-government, the Chamber of Urban Planners, established at the initiative of the TUP, the Society has been transforming into a socio-scientific association, bringing together enthusiasts of all topics related to urban planning. Currently, following the dissolution of the professional self-government of urban planners by Parliament in 2014, the TUP is once again expanding its scope of activities. The statutory goals of the TUP, which include efforts to ensure proper spatial management, are achieved through:

  • cooperation with other social organizations, universities, scientific institutions, government and local government administration bodies and all institutions related to spatial management,
  • improving the professional and scientific qualifications of its members,
  • promoting new research and design methods,
  • expressing opinions and preparing expert opinions for the needs of interested entities responsible for spatial management, the state of the environment and the living conditions of the population.

The Society also organizes annual competitions for the best public space, for the best master’s theses in urban planning, spatial planning, and spatial management, and organizes the Polish Urban Planning Congress every three years.
As the Society of Polish Urban Planners, we aim to publicly address the most pressing issues. Therefore, we invite all those interested in various topics related to cities, broadly speaking, and spatial management to join the Society.
