Description

Gdańsk University of Technology is among 11 Polish universities classified in the prestigious Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), also known as the Shanghai Ranking as well as the second-best research university in Poland in the ‘Initiative of Excellence – Research University’ competition of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

The teaching of architecture has over a hundred years of tradition in Gdansk. Architecture was one of the six faculties of the city’s first university of technology (Königliche Preussische Technische Hochschule), which was founded in 1904, when Gdansk/Danzig was in the Prussian Partition. Albert Carsten, who arrived in Gdansk in March 1900, designed (in a historical style that alludes to the Flemish Renaissance and Baroque forms), and next supervised the construction of the first university buildings, including the Main Building, where the Faculty of Architecture has been based ever since.

The Mission of the Faculty is: “To provide high-quality education for the dynamic development of knowledge-based economy and society. As well as scientific research at the highest international level, in order to fully participate in the transformation of our civilization and cultural enrichment, particularly in the fields of science and technology.”

The Faculty of Architecture at the Gdańsk University of Technology encourages research and education about the built environment and its different interactions with human society.

The Faculty of Architecture offers degree programmes in (1) Architecture and (1) Spatial Governance, with specialisation in Urban and Spatial Planning. We offer both undergraduate (BSc), postgraduate (MSc) and doctoral programmes.

The Faculty of Architecture at Gdańsk University of Technology received an A+ rating (the highest) in the scientific discipline of Architecture and Urban Planning for its activities in the years 2017-2021. The evaluation considered publications, research projects, and commissioned studies by the faculty staff, as well as the impact of our research on the economy and society. We have confirmed the position of the Faculty of Architecture at the Gdańsk University of Technology as the best research centre in Poland in the field of architecture and urban planning.
