Description

The Department of Architecture, Design and Urban planning, DADU for short, was founded in 2004 as the Faculty of Architecture in Alghero of the University of Sassari. Since the first CENSIS-La Repubblica classification, 2009, the Department has always been ranked at the top seven times.

The Department collects 33 professors, 14 researchers, 9 contract researchers and 35 PhD students enrolled in the Research Doctorate in Architecture and Environment. The Department is completed by 9 permanent and 3 temporary technical-administrative staff.

Several disciplinary areas make up the Department, some traditional in architecture departments and others innovative, all deeply integrated with each other and with an international network of research relations. In order to develop its teaching, research and service activities, DADU is organised in the following areas: planning at different scales: design, architecture and urban planning; technology, drawing, restoration, history, structural analysis and design, environment and landscape, as well as basic disciplines such as philosophy of science and mathematics.

In addition to various research grants obtained from competitive and non-competitive tenders, DADU is funded annually by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia for the teaching activities it provides.

In addition to the publication of books, scientific articles in journals and conference proceedings, which can be found in the University’s IRIS research archive, the DADU’s activities also include the organisation of conventions, seminars, conferences and other scientific events, both national and international, to foster the dissemination of the research carried out at the DADU. In order to ensure a lively, up-to-date and international cultural environment, the Department annually funds a programme of cultural activities with events spread throughout the academic year.
